Indonesian Woman Found Inside Giant Python in South Sulawesi

A 45-year-old woman in Indonesia was found inside the stomach of a giant reticulated python. This shocking incident took place in the village of Kalempang, South Sulawesi. The python was about five meters long.

The woman had gone missing on Thursday evening. When she didn’t come home, her husband and other villagers started looking for her. On Friday, they found her belongings and then discovered a python with a swollen belly. Fearing the worst, they cut the snake open and found the woman’s body inside, still fully clothed.

While pythons usually eat smaller animals and birds, attacks on humans, though rare, have happened before in Indonesia:

  • In 2023, an eight-meter-long python killed a farmer in Southeast Sulawesi.
  • In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-meter-long python, also in Southeast Sulawesi.
  • In 2017, a man was swallowed by a four-meter-long python on a palm oil plantation in West Sulawesi.
